About the role
At Catholic Care Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains, we’ve been providing faith-inspired care and support to vulnerable people across our community for more than 25 years.
We’re seeking a Catholic Chaplain to join our dedicated team at the Children’s Hospital, Westmead, providing compassionate pastoral and spiritual care to children, adults, families, and hospital staff during times of need. This role is part-time (2–3 days per week (Monday to Friday, fortnightly rotation).
This role is integral to the mission of the Catholic Church, supporting patients and families through prayer, presence, and accompaniment consistent with Catholic faith and sacramental life within the hospital setting.
About you
Working as a Catholic Chaplain you will be responsible for:
- Providing spiritual and pastoral support to patients, families, volunteers and staff in line with Catholic faith and tradition.
- Facilitating liturgies, prayer services, and sacraments in conjunction with clergy.
- Offering compassionate listening and practical assistance to those experiencing grief, loss, or distress.
- Building respectful relationships across a diverse hospital community, including representatives of multi-faith traditions.
- Working collaboratively with hospital staff and CatholicCare colleagues.
- Documenting and maintaining records in a professional and accurate manner as required by the Hospital and CatholicCare.
This part-time role is Monday to Friday, working 2 days one week and 3 days the following week (5 days per fortnight).
What You’ll Bring
- A strong Catholic faith and commitment to the mission and values of the Church.
- Ability to provide pastoral care and spiritual accompaniment in sensitive and complex settings, including to children.
- Relevant Theological qualifications (e.g., Bachelor of Theology or equivalent).
- Clinical Pastoral Education (minimum 400 hours) or equivalent pastoral care training.
- Previous experience in chaplaincy, pastoral care, or ministry within hospitals, schools, or parish communities.
- Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Teams.
- Active participation in a Catholic parish (please include a reference from your parish priest).
- A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) and NSW Driver’s Licence.
- Either:
- Hold a completed Vaccination Record Card for Category A Workers compliant with NSW Health, or
- Be able to obtain one promptly, showing you are up to date with measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, and influenza vaccinations.
