About the role

The Diocese of Parramatta’s Mission Enhancement Team (MET) is searching for the next Marriage Facilitator, a dynamic leader in the vital ministry of preparing couples for marriage. This position is part-time, working 2 days per week (Approx 14 hours per week).

The Mission Enhancement Team (MET) is a supportive and connected team of professionals that animate the bishop’s vision for the pastoral life and the priorities set out in the Diocesan Pastoral Plan – Behold I Am With You Always. The Team provides quality formation, training, accompaniment, supportive networks, strategic planning and celebrations/events.

The MET Facilitator – Marriage will be responsible for the diocese’s offering of marriage preparation and accompaniment for engaged couples, and the development of marriage enrichment opportunities to strengthen marriage and family life.  

You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with other team members across a variety of focus areas that include, but aren’t limited to young people, families, parish leaders and their communities. The role currently impacts more than 200 couples each year.

While this role is part-time, should a candidate present themselves with a broader set of interests, expertise and/or skillset that supports the ongoing work of MET and its pastoral priorities and the Diocese Pastoral Plan. Candidates should also be aware that this role will include some evening and weekend work.

The role will focus on discovering and creating innovative resources for individuals discerning and living out their vocation to marriage. Responsibilities include developing and hosting events that enhance awareness and celebration of marriage, such as the Annual Faith in Marriage Seminar and the Annual Wedding Anniversary Mass. Additionally, the role involves close collaboration with the Natural Fertility services offered throughout the Diocese.

To be considered for this role, you should ideally meet the following essential requirements:

  • Lead and coordinate the planning, promotion, implementation and ongoing review of core programs includingthe Pre-Marriage Education course, Prepare Enrichcourse and Smart LovingEngaged course.
  • Provide supervision, formation and inspirational leadership to the Pre-Marriage Education course staff and smart Loving Engaged volunteer sponsor couple teams.
  • Recruit and train new staff and volunteers that contribute to the ongoing delivery of pre-marriage programs in the Diocese.
  • Explore new ways to identify, develop and share resources for those discerning their vocation to marriage.
  • Develop and deliver events that foster a growing awareness and celebration of marriage i.e. Annual Faith in Marriage Seminar and Annual Wedding Anniversary Mass.
  • Offer community engagement and support for parish priests, parish teams, parish pastoral councils, ministry groups, youth groups, schools and parish communities in marriage ministry.
  • Seek ways to collaborate and develop new strategies of engaging with Youth and Family networks in the Diocese.
  • Liaise closely with the Natural Fertility services provided acrossthe Diocese.
  • Engage with local and national marriage ministry networks and explore collaborative efforts to support marriages in crisis.
  • Work with MET colleagues to seek, and discover deeper, future engagement strategies for mission beyond pre-marriage education.
  • Other duties as required, especially when supporting the broader MET.
