Find a Religious Order in Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains

Religious Communities and Orders play an incredibly valuable role in the wonderful work of the church in Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

The term ‘religious’ whilst widely used, is one of the forms of consecrated life. Consecrated Life is defined as “a stable form of living by which the faithful, following Christ more closely under the action of the Holy Spirit, are totally dedicated to God” Canon 573 §1

In the Catholic Church, there are several forms of Consecrated Life: religious priests, brothers and sisters; hermits, anchorites, consecrated virgins as well as members of Societies of Apostolic Life and Secular Institutes.

In the Diocese of Parramatta, we are fortunate to have the following types of Consecrated Life: Religious Congregations (those who take simple vows), Religious Orders (those who take solemn vows), Secular Institutes and Consecrated Virgins.

Our amazing sisters, nuns, brothers, priests and consecrated virgins engage in a wide range of services, offering support to people from all walks of life, including the unemployed, refugees, youth, the homeless, the sick, women facing domestic violence, single mothers, the elderly, and individuals with mental health challenges. Both as communities and individuals, they are involved in diverse areas of service such as healthcare, spiritual guidance, prayer and contemplation, social justice initiatives, and parish activities.
