“If I can still be of service, that’s my vocation.”
After decades serving parishes throughout our Diocese of Parramatta and even representing our Catholic Church in Rome, the time came for Monsignor John Boyle to retire. However, he can still be found most Sundays, celebrating Mass and chatting with parishioners, in Churches throughout Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.
“I still feel very committed and connected to ministering in our Diocese, and I’m prepared to do anything our Father’s Church asks – I’m more than happy.
“Meanwhile, it brings out a huge sense of gratitude in me that I’m able to live out my retirement in a comfortable place, and to have caring people who come to make sure we’re safe and well.”
– Monsignor John Boyle, retired parish priest.

Our priests devote their lives in service to God and our faith community. Will you care for them in their retirement, as they have cared for us?
On Father’s Day, we’re reminded of the infinite blessings we’ve been given through the caring, unconditional love of the father figures in our lives. This includes our family and parish priests, whose steadfast support and kind-hearted love has guided and shaped us into who we are today.
Just as it is the communal responsibility of family members to compassionately care for their parents and forefathers; as Christians, it is also the shared concern of our Diocese and faith family to support the wellbeing of our retired clergy, who have selflessly dedicated their lives in service to our Father’s Church and His people.
With your kind support, our Clergy Health and Wellbeing team can ensure that when the time comes, our priests’ physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing will be nurtured, and they will receive the practical support needed to transition to a comfortable and well-deserved retirement. Thank you.

Please support our priests’ dignified retirement and wellbeing

Thank you for caring for our retired priests and clergy who are unwell
Because of your generosity, our Clergy Support Foundation can better support our 21 retired priests and those clergy who are unwell, giving them comfort, professional health care, and guidance.
Thank you so much for caring for our clergy, so they may enjoy a dignified and spiritually rewarding retirement.
Please keep them in your prayers, just as they keep you in theirs.
With gratitude
