Kids’ Voices Art Competition Terms and Conditions

Eligibility  

The “My Church community is a safe place for me” Art Competition is open to residents of Australia who are between 5 and 19 years of age at the time of entry.  

Duration

  • Entries open 17 June 2024 at 9am and close 26 July 2024 at 5pm AEST.  
  • Judging will commence 5 August 2024
  • Winners will be announced on 19 August 2024 
  • Official award ceremony will be held later in the year. (Venue and date TBA)

Prize Categories

  • Category 1: Children 5 to 10 years
  • Category 2: Children 11 to 15 years
  • Category 3: Young people 16 to 19 years
    • Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, Highly Commended, and People’s Choice for each category.
    • Prizes are not redeemable for cash and are not transferable.

Types of artworks accepted  

  • Artworks can be of any one-dimensional, “flat” media such as drawing, painting, collage, photograph, computer art, or a mix of these media that can be converted to a digital image. Submissions of two- or three-dimensional artwork such as sculpture or pottery will not be accepted.
  • Entries must be the entrant’s own, original work. 
  • No part of the artwork can be borrowed or copied. 
  • If there is a question about authenticity, the Diocese reserves the right to demand proof of authorship. If it was determined that it was not the entrant’s work or was not original, the entry will be disqualified. 
  • The artwork cannot be modified after it has been submitted. 
  • The artwork must not contain logos, or reference to any brand, licensed character or image e.g. a character from a movie, book, cartoon, comic, TV show, except the Diocese’s logos and other images. 
  • Entries must not contain any selfies or photographs of recognisable people or products.  
  • Entries must not be derogatory, offensive, threatening, defamatory, libelous or contain any content that is inappropriate, indecent, sexual, profane, slanderous, discriminatory, unlawful in any way or that promotes hatred or harm against any group or person or otherwise does not comply with the theme and spirit of this Competition. If the Diocese has reason to believe the submission breaches this requirement, then the Diocese may, in its absolute discretion, decide not to consider it.  
  • Each file must be submitted in a landscape or horizontal format and is no larger than A4.
  • The Diocese has the sole right to refuse submissions based on the quality of the image, failure to meet requirements, inappropriateness of content and/or concerns regarding copyright infringement in the original work.

How to enter

To enter the competition, you will need to submit for judging:

  • Your artwork
  • The entry form, including a brief 20 to 200-word explanation of your artwork.

You will need to attach a high-resolution digital image of your finished artwork along with the explanation. Image quality must be high resolution (either jpg/png or tif) to enable printing and inclusion in the Art Display.

You may also wish to submit your original artwork in the following ways:

If under 18 years of age, permission of parent/guardian is required before entering this Competition. 

Entries that are incomplete or do not adhere to the rules set out here may be disqualified. Entries must be submitted with the entry process set out above. No other method of entry will be accepted. Entries that do not meet these criteria may not be considered. 

By submitting an entry, each Entrant is deemed to accept the terms and conditions of this Competition and each Entrant indemnifies the Diocese against loss or damage it may suffer or any claims against it in connection with any breach of these terms and conditions by the Entrant. 

You can only submit one (1) artwork. 

You will receive an automatic email from the Art Competition Committee upon receipt of your submission.  

Entrants can contact [email protected] to withdraw their submission. 

How winners are chosen

Judges will be appointed by the Diocese at its sole discretion.  

Voting for the People’s Choice Award will be conducted during the Art Competition hours. The winners of the Competition will be announced at the close of the competition. 

Based on the submissions, they will be judged based on the following elements of artistic expression:  

  • Originality and Creativity (25%)
  • Composition and Design (25%)
  • Use of Medium (25%)
  • Interpretation and clarity of theme (25%)

How winners claim prize

In the week commencing 19 August 2024, the Diocese will notify the winners. All successful applicants will be contacted by phone or email.  

What happens if prize is not claimed 

In the event a winner cannot be identified/contacted, or no person comes forward to claim the prize within two (2) weeks of the notification, the prize will be awarded to the runner-up entry.

Late entries  

Valid entries cannot be withdrawn after the prize closing date/time of 26 July 2024 at 5pm AEST.

Particular rights to be able to use, display or publish the entries

By entering the Competition and providing your original artwork (e.g. drawing, painting, collage, photograph etc), you understand and agree that the Diocese and anyone else acting on behalf of the Diocese shall have the right, where permitted by law, to print, publish, broadcast, distribute, and use in any media now known or hereafter developed, in perpetuity without limitation, your entry, name, portrait, picture,  image, statements about the Competition, and biographical information for news, publicity, information, trade, advertising, public relations, and promotional purposes without any further compensation, notices, review, or consent. 

You represent and warrant that your entry is an original work of authorship and does not violate any third party’s proprietary or intellectual property rights. If your submitted artwork infringes upon the intellectual property right of another, you will be disqualified at the sole discretion of the Diocese. If the content of your entry is claimed to constitute an infringement of any proprietary or intellectual proprietary rights of any third party, you shall, at your sole expense, defend or settle against such claims. You shall indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Diocese from and against any suit, proceeding, claims, liability, loss, damage, costs or expense, which the Diocese may incur, suffer, or be required to pay to arise out of such infringement or suspected infringement of any third party’s right. 

All winning entrants consent to the Diocese reproducing a digital/hard copy image of their artwork to be used in promotional materials for the Diocese Office for Safeguarding such as.

  • Diocesan online logos to link to age-appropriate safeguarding resources
  • An online exhibition. 
  • For display at any of the Diocese’s offices  
  • Digital/social media promotion for the competition and related exhibitions, including to help with promotion of future art competitions. 

Liability and indemnity 

The Diocese is not liable for any loss (including loss of opportunity) or damage (including, but not limited to, direct, indirect or inconsequential loss) or personal injury in relation to this competition or the use of, or participation in, the prize. 

Privacy Policy

By entering the Art Competition, the artist or his/her legal representative agree on the Diocese’s Privacy Policy.

The Diocese collects personal information from entrants to conduct the competition and may, in the course of business, disclose the personal information to third parties, as required. Entry in this competition is conditional on the provision of the personal information requested. Entries may be entered into a database and the Diocese may use the entrants’ name and addresses for future promotional, marketing and publicity in various forms by the Diocese, and the entrant consents to such use. Entrants may direct any request to access their personal information to the Diocese. Additionally, all works submitted as part of an entry become the property of the Diocese and it is a condition of entry that those works be used by the Diocese for their own promotional, marketing and publicity purposes without restriction. The Diocese may share the entry details with the prize provider. 

Your authority and consent  

By signing, you confirm that you have read and understood these terms and conditions and give permission for your child to participate in the Art competitions or programs on these terms.
