27 May 2016: Father Peter G Williams letter about Marian Nursing Home
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
RE: MARIAN NURSING HOME
The Diocese of Parramatta will sell its sole residential aged care facility, Marian Nursing Home, to Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT), effective 1 September 2016.
To ensure the long-term sustainability of Marian Nursing Home and due to the rapidly changing nature of the aged care sector – including ageing population demographics and evolving industry regulation – it was deemed beneficial for the Home to be part of a larger network.
Most aged care providers operate multiple facilities and accordingly, benefit from the scale of their operations, including greater ongoing financial stability.
It is also in the best care interests of the residents that Marian Nursing Home be transitioned to a larger aged care provider.
The sale to Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT), a not-for-profit organisation, was based on the premise of looking for other faith-based organisations to purchase the facility, ideally shifting from one Catholic organisation to another. This transition will help ensure the facility maintains its unique Christian character and heritage.
Marian Nursing Home employees will also benefit by the move to a larger, established provider, with opportunities for greater role diversity and choice.
If you have any questions about this please do not hesitate to contact myself or Geoff Officer, Chief of Operations & Finance.
With my prayers,
Very Reverend Peter G Williams
Diocesan Administrator
