The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) is a worldwide organisation designed to further the religious education of children. The Diocesan CCD was established by Bishop Bede Heather on 15 June 1987 to assist the Bishop in undertaking the religious education and faith formation of Catholic students attending NSW Government schools. Today, The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) Parramatta supports 550+ SRE Catechists and 230+ student SRE Assistants who volunteer in over 200 public schools across the Diocese
Our Mission
The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD), Diocese of Parramatta consists of catechists who are mainly volunteers, dedicated and committed to teaching Special Religious Education (SRE) in public schools.
We strive to ensure that children from Catholic families attending public schools, have an opportunity to hear the Good News, to develop a relationship with God and to feel welcomed as valued members of the Church community.
We endeavour, by our living the gospel values, to nourish and support the faith development of the students and their families. We will strive to challenge unjust structures which impede the mission of Jesus. We seek the support of our colleagues and collaborate with other ministries and organisations to enable this mission to emerge.
We commit to engage in ongoing formation, responding to signs of the times in continuing the mission of Jesus Christ.
We value the opportunity to give witness to our faith, and to work alongside other Christians and other faith teachers, in our common commitment to enhance the human and spiritual development of students in public schools.
CCD Parramatta is committed to providing high-quality Special Religious Education that is relevant and engaging for students. We do this by:
- Recruiting and training SRE Catechists: The CCD provides catechists with the knowledge and skills they need to teach SRE effectively. This includes training in Catholic theology, pedagogy, and catechetical methodology.
- Providing support to our SRE Catechists: The CCD provides ongoing support to catechists, including mentoring, professional development opportunities, and access to resources.
- Advocating for SRE: The CCD advocates for the importance of SRE in providing Catholic children and young people with the opportunity to learn about their faith.
We play an important role in ensuring that Catholic children and young people have the opportunity to learn about their faith and grow in their relationship with God.
