About the role

St Patrick’s Cathedral Parish is seeking a highly organised and approachable Parish Secretary to support the day-to-day operations of the Cathedral office and contribute to the life of the parish community.

This is a unique opportunity to work in a purpose-driven environment, supporting clergy, parish staff, and the wider community through compassionate service and strong administrative support.

About the Role

As the Parish Secretary, you will be the first point of contact for parishioners and visitors, while providing comprehensive administrative support across a range of parish activities including liturgies, events, and sacramental programs.

You will play a key role in ensuring the efficient operation of the Cathedral office while supporting the parish’s mission and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a welcoming and professional front office and reception service
  • Manage calendars, bookings, correspondence, and general office administration
  • Support clergy and parish staff with scheduling and coordination
  • Coordinate administrative aspects of funerals, weddings, and baptisms
  • Liaise with parish groups, ministries, and external stakeholders
  • Prepare and distribute the weekly parish bulletin and communications
  • Maintain records, databases, and filing systems
  • Assist with parish events and activities, including occasional after-hours support

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Highly organised with strong administrative skills
  • A confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Professional, discreet, and able to handle sensitive information
  • Customer-focused with a warm and welcoming approach
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable learning new systems
  • Able to manage competing priorities and work both independently and collaboratively

Experience in administration within a community, church, or not-for-profit environment will be highly regarded.

Employment type: Permanent Part‑time (3 days: Tues, Thurs and Fri)

Award: Clerks Award Level 3 + Super
