Diocese of Parramatta

The Diocesan Youth Council is commissioned by the Bishop of the Diocese to provide vision and overall cohesion of ministry with young people in the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta. The Council is to work collaboratively with church agencies and communities to ensure that young people have coherent and coordinated opportunities to encounter the person of Jesus Christ, which in turn engages and animates their spiritual lives in an ongoing way. 

The Diocesan Youth Council seeks to:

a) Establish and maintain a comprehensive vision and overview of youth ministry support and initiatives across the diocese

b) Advise on, and assist in the implementation of actions referring to youth in the Pastoral Plan

c) Promote communication and co-operation between schools, parishes, movements and organisations

d) Promote and support successful initiatives

e) Identify gaps and areas of concern to provide feedback and steps for development

f) Provide support, training and networking opportunities for those who minister with young people and youth leaders

g) Facilitate opportunities for listening and dialoguing with young people in the diocese

h) Identify and support the leadership development and faith formation of young people for the purpose of future leadership roles within the diocese

i) Provide advice, give direction, and make recommendations to the Bishop and the Diocesan agency for Youth, Catholic Youth Parramatta, on policy development and directions for youth ministry

CYP is committed to exploring and supporting the collaboration of parishes, schools and movements in their engagement of young people at a Deanery level in areas of youth ministry, formation and participation at local, national and international events. Deanery Youth Ministry Ambassadors are dedicated leaders serving in local parishes, schools and movements who have volunteered their time and talents to encourage collaboration within and promote youth ministry opportunities to local communities in their respective areas.
