There are several communities of Chinese Catholics within the Diocese of Parramatta, who celebrate Mass in both Mandarin and Cantonese. These Masses offer a unique and profound way for the Chinese-speaking faithful to connect with their heritage while deepening their relationship with Christ. They also provide an accessible and welcoming environment for worshippers, allowing them to fully participate in the liturgy and sacraments in their native language.
Our Chinese Mass services are more than just a liturgical offering; they are a communal experience that fosters fellowship and unity among the Chinese-speaking members of our diocese. These gatherings serve as a vital link between faith and culture, where traditional Chinese values harmoniously blend with Catholic teachings.
Beyond the Chinese Mass services, our Chinese Catholic community is active in various spiritual and cultural activities. These include prayer groups, Bible study sessions, and cultural celebrations that highlight the significant feast days in the Chinese Catholic calendar. These events provide opportunities for deeper spiritual growth, community bonding and the celebration of Chinese traditions within the context of the Catholic faith.
Key days of recognition in the Chinese Catholic community include Lunar New Year, usually held in February; the feast of the 120 Martyrs of China in July. Chinese Catholics also celebrate the feast of the Virgin Mary (Our Lady of Sheshan); as well as other saints including St Francis Xavier and Augustine Zhao Rong.
We invite all members of the Chinese-speaking community to join us in worship, fellowship, and spiritual growth at Our Lady of the Angels, Rouse Hill and St Monica’s, North Parramatta.
