About the role
We are seeking a capable, organised and highly discreet Paralegal & Compliance Support professional (full-time) to join our Office for Safeguarding team.
Reporting to the Manager & Legal Counsel, Office for Safeguarding, this role provides paralegal, compliance and administrative support across the Office’s legal portfolio.
You will support the management of historical abuse civil claims, assist with the National Redress Scheme, maintain safeguarding compliance records and assist with requests from legal representatives, government bodies and regulators.
This role requires a high level of confidentiality, discretion, sound judgement and attention to detail, and offers an opportunity to use your skills in a purpose-driven environment.
This role involves regular exposure to sensitive and potentially distressing material as part of the work. Applicants should be aware of the nature of the role and the potential emotional impact of working with this type of content. Support and wellbeing resources are available to staff.
Key responsibilities

- Provide paralegal and administrative support for historical abuse civil claims.
- Assist with the National Redress Scheme and related safeguarding matters.
- Process Working with Children Check (WWCC) and Ministry-related requests, including faculty requests and Ministry Cards.
- Maintain accurate training and compliance records and the SitePass platform.
- Prepare correspondence and documentation for solicitors, regulators, government bodies and other stakeholders.
- Provide legal research, secretariat, project and general administrative support to the Office for Safeguarding.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following criteria:
- A relevant qualification in law, legal studies or a related discipline, or progress towards such a qualification, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience in a paralegal, legal administration, compliance or similar role.
- Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- A high level of confidentiality, discretion and sound professional judgement, particularly when dealing with sensitive matters.
- Maturity, empathy and resilience, with a demonstrated commitment to safeguarding and the values and mission of the Catholic Church.
Experience or knowledge in personal injury, historical abuse claims, insurance, claims management or safeguarding will be highly regarded.
Mandatory Requirements
- A current NSW Working with Children Check Clearance or willing to obtain one
- Willingness to participate in mandatory safeguarding training and formation opportunities.
