The Major Pilgrim Relic Mission

The Major Pilgrim Relic

The First-Class Major Pilgrim Relic of St Carlo Acutis is carried worldwide under the custodianship of the Diocese of Assisi, in accordance with Church guidelines. The relic is a 6 × 2 cm section of St Carlo’s pericardium, the membranous sac that encloses and protects the heart.

St Carlo’s ‘spiritual pericardium’ protected his relationship with Jesus, and consisted of five practices: frequent reception of the Eucharistic Jesus, Adoration, spiritual direction and confession, devotion to the Blessed Mother and the saints, and acts of charity. These practices led him to holiness and can likewise lead us to holiness, that we too may become saints.

The Mission

In 2026, St Carlo’s Major Pilgrim Relic came to New Zealand (7 to 23 June) and is currently being taken around Australia (25 June to 25 October). The First-Class Major Pilgrim Relic of St Carlo Acutis is carried worldwide under the custodianship of the Diocese of Assisi, in accordance with Church guidelines.  Bishop Peter Murphy of Armidale Diocese invitation to Assisi to come to Australia was accepted and the Friends of St Carlo Acutis, Australia has been commissioned to organise the Mission around Australia, having appointed Kate Hobbs as the official Australian Custodian of the Relic.

St Carlo’s “5 Steps to Holiness” at the heart of the Mission

The Friends of St Carlo Acutis Australia team strives to live what we are proclaiming. Daily Mass (essential) and Eucharistic Adoration are the heart of the Mission and foundation of all that we do.
