Undergraduate Certificate in Theology

The Diocese of Parramatta has partnered with BBI-The Australian Institute of Theological Education (BBI-TAITE) to offer a nationally recognised Undergraduate Certificate in Theology.
This is the first time BBI-TAITE has offered an accredited Undergraduate Certificate in Theology. It gives students the opportunity to undertake formal theological formation and gain a recognised qualification that can support their involvement in parish life, ministry and leadership.
The program is offered face-to-face with a competitive fee structure, making it accessible to people who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to pursue formal theological studies.

Applications are now open for the first cohort, commencing in Semester 1, 2027.
The Diocese will sponsor 50% of each successful applicant’s fees.

Responding to our Diocesan Synod and Pastoral Plan
A key theme of our Diocesan Synod was the need for ongoing and substantial formation for lay women and men, so that they can more meaningfully respond to the call of their baptism and become more active and co-responsible participants in the life and mission of the Church.
In response, the Formation priority of our Diocesan Pastoral Plan commits us to “sponsor equal numbers of women and men from the Diocese in studies of ecclesiology, theology, models for pastoral care, leadership and ministry.” This partnership helps fulfil that commitment.

Pope Leo XIV

Investing in our future
Investing in the formation of people in our parishes is an investment in the future of the Church. Developing the theological knowledge, confidence and leadership capacity of parishioners enables more people to take up meaningful roles in ministry and leadership, strengthens the capacity of our parishes, and supports greater participation in the life and mission of the Church.
This partnership is part of our commitment to building a stronger culture of formation within our parishes, equipping people not only to deepen their own faith, but to share their gifts, accompany others and contribute to the renewal and mission of the Church.
